  1. Passive Voice“An autopsy is being performed today by the county coroner.”
  2. Using Numbers – ” The jury reached  its verdict in only thirty (30) minutes.”
  3. Paying attention to what I’m writing” The House approved the bill, changing the America(American) system of health care forever. “

Sharing Vs. your privacy on Facebook

http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/ptech/04/01/facebook.developers.privacy/index.html?hpt=C1

The web package I have chosen is of the an article on CNN.com about Facebook Privacy.

The first thing that sticks out is the picture: http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/TECH/ptech/04/01/facebook.developers.privacy/story.facebook.privacy.fb.jpg

If you scroll to the bottom you will find links to related articles: http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/meast/03/30/saudi.social.networking.sex/index.html

Also at the end of the article is a comment box where readers can express their feelings on the issue.

The artricle also follows the neccesary guideliens such 1.5 spacing, grabbing title and a concise story.

If I wasn’t doing this assignment I wouldn’t have clicked on the related story link about Information Privacy: http://topics.cnn.com/topics/information_privacy

After suffering alcohol poisoning at an off campus party this Sunday, one student remains in critical condition at a local hospital, and two others were admitted and released, university officials said. In result, Alpha Beta Zeta fraternity has been suspended until further notice.

Junior; Press Martin, freshman Al Amalek and sophomore Rob Smith were seen consuming alcohol in the ABZ house, according to the university’s public relations department. Martin and Smith were released from the hospital on Monday morning, but Amalek remains in critical condition.

Jan Mize, a university representative has issued this statement, “Our initial investigation indicates these young me were at a party in the ABZ house. A number of witnesses say alcohol was being consumed by them. Based on that we are suspending the fraternity and all its activities on campus. We have not decided how long the suspension will last.”

Two weeks ago, University president Harvey Smithville reinforced school policy on alcohol in fraternity houses located on campus or within campus limits. First offense results in a suspension, second offense within a year results in a banning of the fraternity for five years.

In response to the suspension placed upon ABZ, Inter fraternity Council president Bart Addison said, “I am shocked that this incident has occurred, I believed that every one adhering to the University’s policy. However I do not believe that the entire fraternity should be held responsible for the actions of a few.”

3 Ways a lateral journalist might supplement my story:

1) Audio/Video statements of people at party, university representatives

2) poll question asking should ABZ fraternity be suspended in this incident

3) Comment box/forum where readers can voice their opinions

Many college fraternities are coming  under fire as more and more people have become concerned about the amount of alcohol consumption at parties. Making matters worst two isolated incidents coming at LSU and MIT related to alcohol poisoning have resulted in deaths.

This Sunday, three students from the Alpha Beta Zeta fraternity were admitted to a local hospital with cases of alcohol poisoning. Press Martin and Rob Smith were released from the hospital Monday morning while Al Amalek a freshman from Nashville, TN remains in the hospital listed at critical condition.

Just two weeks ago University president Harvey Smithville reinforced school policy on alcohol in fraternity houses located on campus or within campus limits. First offense results in a suspension, second offense within a year results in a banning of the fraternity for five years.

Jan Mize, a university representative has issued this statement, “Our initial invesitgation indicates these young me were at a party in the ABZ house. A number of witnesses say alcohol was being consumed by them. Based on that we are suspending the fraternity and all its activities on campus. We have not decide how long the suspension will last.”

In response to the suspension placed upon ABZ, Inter fraternity Council president Bart Addison has also issued a statement. ” We wholeheartedly agree with President Smithville that alcohol has no place at fraternity parties.”  He then went onto say, “I am shocked that this incident has occurred, I believed that every one adhering to the University’s policy. However I do not believe that the entire fraternity should be held responsible for the actions of a few.”

Photo courtesy of Flickr user Bree Rockbrand

In Bree Rockbrand’s photo titled, ‘Untitled,’ I can see a person touching a tree branch with their left arm. The arm touching the tree appears to have a tattoo of a ship anchor and a short message done by an ordinary ink pen versus tattoo ink. In the picture the person appears to be wearing possbily a sweater with the sleeved rolled up. The main focus of the picture is the arm and tree however in the background there appears to be snow.  The tree branches the person is pulling on is bare and thin. In the upper left corner you can see sunlight trying to come through other trees during what appears to be a sunset. The person in the picture also has another ink pen tattoo on their hand but it’s not visible enough to make out a clear image of what it really is.  The image gives off a cold winter feeling.

Movie Review: “Blow”

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

“Blow” is a movie based on the drug trafficing of the 70’s and early 80’s. I particulary like this movie because of it’s funny scenes and its outlandish characters. I give “Blow” three stars out of four.
